Grid Paper Paper Notecards

Hey Everybody! Happy beginning of the week to you. Thanks for stopping by my blog today because I am excited to share something with you... I've been working on creating some fun background pieces with spritzing and splattering and watercoloring. I like to use Stampin' Up!'s Grid Paper to protect my work surface when I am getting messy. The other week I looked down at my grid paper and realized it was a really fun piece of art in itself. I decided to use it to make a set of birthday cards that I could give to my friends and I love how grungy and fun the set came out.

The huge Lemon Lime Twist blob on this card is what really caught my eye so I made sure that it wasn't covered up when I designed the cards.

I used the same Happy Birthday sentiment from the Big on Birthdays Stamp Set, heat embossed in white on Basic Black Cardstock for each card. Each background is different and fun in its' own way since the grid paper shows a collection of messes from different projects I've been working on.

I wanted to keep with the grungy, messy look and thought some washi tape would be great for embellishing these cards. The Pick a Pattern Washi Tape and the Year of Cheer Specialty Washi Tape made for a winning combo. The geometric look of the Pick a Pattern went perfectly with the Grid Paper and the metallic finish of the Year of Cheer tape added some industrial looking flair.

I used the Starburst Punch with some Silver Foil to layer behind my sentiment. On each card decided to switch up the embellishments by using either Metallic Black or Silver Thread and Different enamel dots or rhinestones.

Here's a look at the whole set together...

I already had the pleasure of giving one of these cards to a friend for her 25th birthday this weekend.

So, let's hear it... Have you used your scratch paper or grid paper on your cards before? Looking forward to hearing back from you. If you've done something like this before please leave me a link in the comments below. I'd love to check out your work too!

Scrappy Little Butterfly

Hi everybody! It's Friday here in California and although I have a really long day at work I am excited because I think my husband and I get to go on date night tonight! Woohoo! It's been a while so it should be fun. Anyhow, that's not why you're here I'm sure so let's to get to today's card which I'm calling the Scrappy Little Butterfly. Not because he's a tough little butterfly but because I used a handful of scraps to make this card. Best use of scraps ever. I've done this kind of thing before and now I will make a point of doing it more often.

Like most paper crafters I have a ton of scraps. I store them in a file with the corresponding full sheets of cardstock. Sometimes those files start to get full and it's mostly because the scraps all pile up at the bottom and make my files bulge. An easy solution is to grab a bunch of those scraps in a variety of colors and take them over to your Big Shot. Pull out some of your favorite dies and just start cutting away until you have beautiful die cuts and no usable scraps left. Then, head over to your desk and have a little paper party. Literally everything on this card is from my tub of precut die cuts (that sits on my desk at all times).

Pick out pieces and colors that you may not otherwise have put together and layer them up with glue dots and dimensionals. It seriously fun and it is really nice not to have to interrupt the creative process to go cut more pieces because you will already have so many to work with. This is also helpful for finding new color combos as it's easy to add and remove die cut pieces before they are adhered.

You can see that I used a punch to cut out some leaves as well. If you don't have a Big Shot it's no big deal. Use your punches or leftover pieces from Paper Pumpkin and other kits that you may have purchased. If all else fails, use your paper trimmer to cut strips or squares that you can have some fun with. I still have a ton of scraps so I plan on doing this again soon. I wonder how many cards I could make with all of my scraps... Hahaha!

Well, that's it for today folks. Thanks for stopping by and visiting my blog-you know it makes my day when you do.

Have a great weekend!
Maria.
