Crafty Friends: Pinkfresh and a Discount!

Hey you guys! How are you all doing out there in this crazy world? I'm in California, USA and my family is healthy, safe and on lockdown at home. I'd love to hear how you are all doing so please let me know in the comments below! Since I'm sure many of you are stir crazy I'm happy to say that today is the 20th of the month when I hop my Crafty Friends and we bring you a 20% discount to our featured company! Woohoo! There is no better time for a discount than when you are on lockdown and actually have time to spend getting crafty. I am happy to let you know that this month we are featuring Pinkfresh Studios and they are generously offering all of you a 20% discount to their shop! Details are at the bottom of my post.

For my first card I used the Heart and Soul stamp set and it is such a stunner. It's got one large floral image shaped like a half wreath and quite a few wonderful sentiments.

I started off by watercoloring my image with Pinkfresh liquid watercolors. Then I added some Nuvo drops to give it some dimension and shine. When it was dry I fussy cut it out.

I taped off the edges of a piece of watercolor paper with some purple tape. Then I ink blended the background using Distress Oxide ink Peacock Feathers. To finish the background I spritzed it with shimmer spray and splattered it with silver metallic paint from Hero Arts.

Finally I added a sentiment on yellow cardstock and then some chunky rhinestones to finish it off.

For my next projects I made two cards from one background that I cut from the Diagonal Stripes with Window die. I ink blended my background with Distress Oxide inks in Squeezed Lemon, Picked Raspberry and Abandoned Coral. Then, I cut it out with the die. I used the positive part of the die cut for my first card.

These colors really pop when paired with some black cardstock so I used foam adhesive to pop the die up. Then I splattered the whole thing with Sparkle from a Tonic Studios Nuvo Shimmer Pen in Glitter Gloss.

The super fun sentiment is cut using Pinkfresh's Classic Word Dies Set. I love that this set provides both the thinner sentiment as well as the "halo" background piece. The final touch for this card was to add enamel dots from Hero Arts and a bunch of random sequins, pearls, rhinestones and confetti stars. I really love how this card came out (it's super sparkly).

For my second card  with this die I used the negative pieces. I used positive piece of the die to help me line up all of the thin stripes and popped them up on foam adhesive.
#mariawillis, #cardbomb, #card, #cardmaking, #cardmaker, #cards, #handmade, #pinkfreshstudios, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #art, #diy, #color, #happybirthday, #heartandsoul, #diecut, #diecutting,

I decided to flip the center piece over before adhering it because I liked the way the contrast looked. I added my sentiment and this time I only used the thin letters so that my colored background would pop.

To finish the card off I some black ink splatter and a few enamel dots from Hero Arts.

These cards are bright and happy and totally remind me of the 80's!

Hero Arts March My Monthly Hero and a Giveaway!

Hey everybody! It's the first Monday of the month and that means it is time for a new My Monthly Hero Kit release from Hero Arts! I also want to make sure you know that there is a generous giveaway from Hero Arts and the details will be at the bottom of my post.

I decided to go for a bit more of a mixed media look with this kit. I ink blended the background using My Hero Hues Reactive inks. Then I sprayed the background with my shimmer mist and spattered it with my White Glimmer Metallic Ink.
#art, #cardbomb, #cards, #color, #copicmarkers, #copics, #dog, #happybirthday, #heroarts, #ink, #mariawillis, #mymonthyhero, #paper, #papercraft, #stamp, #tonicstudios, #tonicstudiosusa, #nuvo, #mixedmedia, #tree,
I wanted to add some gold gilding flakes so I stamped my tree trunk using a liquid glue. Once that dried to the right tackiness I covered it with gilding flakes and used a dry paint brush to remove the excess. I also painted some extra adhesive onto the background and adding gilding flakes to that too.
#art, #cardbomb, #cards, #color, #copicmarkers, #copics, #dog, #happybirthday, #heroarts, #ink, #mariawillis, #mymonthyhero, #paper, #papercraft, #stamp, #tonicstudios, #tonicstudiosusa, #nuvo, #mixedmedia, #tree,

I wanted the tree to really sparkle and have dimension so after stamping it I added gilding flakes and then a ton of glittering leaves (dragons scales from a past MMH kit). It really catches the light in real life. Oh! I almost forgot to tell you about the sentiment. I used a sentiment from the kit but I did a little bit of stamp surgery on it. Originally it said, "live life in full bloom." I cut the "bloom" off to get the sentiment that I used.
#art, #cardbomb, #cards, #color, #copicmarkers, #copics, #dog, #happybirthday, #heroarts, #ink, #mariawillis, #mymonthyhero, #paper, #papercraft, #stamp, #tonicstudios, #tonicstudiosusa, #nuvo, #mixedmedia, #tree,

For my second card I wanted to do something a little bit different. I used the swirl stamp to create a background. The super cool thing about this stamp is that if you stamp it once then give it a 180 degree flip... the stamp will exactly together with the first stamped image. I used this method to stamp from left to right across the page. If making the stamp fit perfectly together as described weren't enough, it also fits together from top to bottom making it incredibly easy to put many rows of this image on top of each other to create a cool background. This is what I did using rainbow colors.
#art, #cardbomb, #cards, #color, #copicmarkers, #copics, #dog, #happybirthday, #heroarts, #ink, #mariawillis, #mymonthyhero, #paper, #papercraft, #stamp, #tonicstudios, #tonicstudiosusa, #nuvo, #mixedmedia, #tree,

I used the Wood Frame Infinity Dies to cut a black frame and popped it up on the background. I cut the tree trunk from silver foil. The tree leaves are cut from vellum, heat embossed in Black Sparkle embossing powder and colored from behind with pink copic markers. The final touch was to add sequins followed by Nuvo Dream Drops.
#art, #cardbomb, #cards, #color, #copicmarkers, #copics, #dog, #happybirthday, #heroarts, #ink, #mariawillis, #mymonthyhero, #paper, #papercraft, #stamp, #tonicstudios, #tonicstudiosusa, #nuvo, #mixedmedia, #tree,

Hero Arts My Monthly Hero Release and a Giveaway!

Hi everybody! I hope you're Monday is off to a great start but if you're having a little case of the Mondays I'm hoping this blog hop will turn things right around for you. Today is release day for the Hero Arts My Monthly Hero kit and in addition to a blog hop with tons of inspiration we've also got a giveaway for you (details at the bottom of my post)!

This month's kit is all about birthdays and I decided to make a few cards using some of the add-ons from the kit. This adorable dog and funny sentiment are from the Birthday Paw-ty set. There are multiple adorable dogs and many more great sentiments.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #heroarts, #mymonthyhero, #cards, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #color, #dog, #happybirthday, #art, #copics, #copicmarkers,
I'm having a bit of a birthday card shortage over here so I decided to stamp the dog and sentiment multiple times and change some details of the cards so that they'd all look different. I colored all of the dogs with my copic markers (E23, E25, E27, E29).
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #heroarts, #mymonthyhero, #cards, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #color, #dog, #happybirthday, #art, #copics, #copicmarkers,
I masked off the dogs and bottoms of my cards with masking tape and then I ink blended the backgrounds using Hero Arts reactive inks in Taffy, Lemon Drop, and Splash.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #heroarts, #mymonthyhero, #cards, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #color, #dog, #happybirthday, #art, #copics, #copicmarkers,
Then I used the Banner Letterset Fancy Dies to create customized sentiment banners for each of my cards. These banners are so cool! I left all of the letters attached and cut out the whole alphabet at once. It was so convenient and quick to do. I added sequins from the kit to add a little razzle dazzle and called it good for these cards.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #heroarts, #mymonthyhero, #cards, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #color, #dog, #happybirthday, #art, #copics, #copicmarkers,

For my next card I used an awesome die called the Happy Birthday Cake Fancy Die. I love this die! It was the first thing I had to use out of the whole stash and I love how quickly I was able to make a shaker card with it. I ink blended the inside panel in Splash reactive ink. Then I ink blended the front panel in Lemon Drop, Creamsicle and Fruit Punch. I used Hero Arts Shimmer Spray to add a bunch of sparkle and shine to this piece.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #heroarts, #mymonthyhero, #cards, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #color, #dog, #happybirthday, #art, #copics, #copicmarkers,

Next, I cut the die out of the front panel and I love how the leaves the Happy Birthday sentiment perfectly framed in the middle of the cake. Also, check out those candles! They are so much fun! I covered that opening with acetate, added a layer of foam adhesive, stuffed the card with sequin guts and sealed it all up. I decorated the front of the card with a combination of sequins from this kit, older sequins and enamel dots. I wish you could see how much this card sparkles in person because it's really fun.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #heroarts, #mymonthyhero, #cards, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #color, #dog, #happybirthday, #art, #copics, #copicmarkers,

Ok you guys, that's all I've got for you today except for telling you about the generous giveaway from Hero Arts!

Hero Arts is giving away a $50 gift certificate to one lucky winner! All you have to do to enter is leave a comment right here on my blog by Sunday, February 9th at 11:59pm pacific and the winner will be announced the following week on the Hero Arts blog.

Mixed Drinks Beer Card: Retiring Products Blog Hop

Hey everybody! I'm stopping by for a quick hello, a birthday brew and a sad farewell...

Today I am taking part in blog hop featuring retiring Stampin' Up! products. My buddy had a birthday this past weekend and he loves a good beer! The soon to be retired stamp set "Mixed Drinks" was the perfect set for me to make him a card with. I stamped the mug of beer (could double as a root beer float too!) in Black Archival ink and watercolored it using So Saffron and Smoky Slate inks.
#cardbomb, #stampinup, #mixeddrinks, #cards, #stamps, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #create, #creative, #handmade, #beer, #bubbleover, #happybirthday, #watercolor, #masculine,

After the mug dried I added some texture paste to the "foam" and dabbed some So Saffron ink on it to color it in a bit. I used a current set called Bubble Over (carrying over into the next catalog-yeah!) to add the punched sentiment and to stamp the background.
#cardbomb, #stampinup, #mixeddrinks, #cards, #stamps, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #create, #creative, #handmade, #beer, #bubbleover, #happybirthday, #watercolor, #masculine,

The image piece needed a little extra something so I used a fine tip black Sharpie to add to some little "fizzles" into the air over the beer. I also frayed the top of the watercolor paper with my fingernail and then sponged it with Sahara Sand ink.
#cardbomb, #stampinup, #mixeddrinks, #cards, #stamps, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #create, #creative, #handmade, #beer, #bubbleover, #happybirthday, #watercolor, #masculine,

This set is such a great one and instead of being sad to see it go... I will keep it and use it forever more because I know lots of people who enjoy a good birthday brew! Is there a retiring set that you will be keeping forever because you hate to see it go?

I'm so glad you've stopped by today! If you'd like to continue on this hop and see more amazing "last chance," retiring products then please the person after me on the Blog Roll below. Enjoy! As always, feel free to contact with questions either by comment below or via email. If you're interested in purchasing this stamp set before it's gone for good please click the product link below the blog roll.

Thanks and have an awesome day!

Fat Unicorn!

Not long ago I spent a little time having fun making backgrounds. I sponged, I spritzed, I watercolored... I just had fun creating without any purpose besides having fun. This is one of the backgrounds I made and it seemed just perfect for one of these fat unicorns from the Myths & Magic set.

I used just two colors (plus Daffodil Delight on the horn) for this whole unicorn. I used Tempting Turquoise and Melon Mambo. I love how these two colors blend so beautifully together to make such a range of colors. I used more ink on the main and tail than I did on the body of the unicorn. On the body I started out with a very light wash of Tempting Turquoise and and then add a small amount of Melon Mambo to the areas that I wanted some highlighting in. It gave a pinky-purpley color that I like.

I added some die cut stars or "magic bursts" cut out of silver glimmer paper. Then I added White twine and some washi tape and called this card done. Sometimes when you have a pretty background and a fat unicorn it's a good idea to stop before you overdo it.

I hope you like my card today. Thanks for stopping by. I'll be back tonight with a card for this week's TGIFChallenges and I hope you'll come back to check it out. That's it for now but thanks so much for stopping by. As always, if you want to make your own fat unicorn cards and need to buy the stamp set... I'm your girl. Let me know if you need some help or have any questions. Otherwise, if you prefer to shop on your own, feel free to click the link below and have some fun!

Have an awesome day!
Maria

Grid Paper Paper Notecards

Hey Everybody! Happy beginning of the week to you. Thanks for stopping by my blog today because I am excited to share something with you... I've been working on creating some fun background pieces with spritzing and splattering and watercoloring. I like to use Stampin' Up!'s Grid Paper to protect my work surface when I am getting messy. The other week I looked down at my grid paper and realized it was a really fun piece of art in itself. I decided to use it to make a set of birthday cards that I could give to my friends and I love how grungy and fun the set came out.

The huge Lemon Lime Twist blob on this card is what really caught my eye so I made sure that it wasn't covered up when I designed the cards.

I used the same Happy Birthday sentiment from the Big on Birthdays Stamp Set, heat embossed in white on Basic Black Cardstock for each card. Each background is different and fun in its' own way since the grid paper shows a collection of messes from different projects I've been working on.

I wanted to keep with the grungy, messy look and thought some washi tape would be great for embellishing these cards. The Pick a Pattern Washi Tape and the Year of Cheer Specialty Washi Tape made for a winning combo. The geometric look of the Pick a Pattern went perfectly with the Grid Paper and the metallic finish of the Year of Cheer tape added some industrial looking flair.

I used the Starburst Punch with some Silver Foil to layer behind my sentiment. On each card decided to switch up the embellishments by using either Metallic Black or Silver Thread and Different enamel dots or rhinestones.

Here's a look at the whole set together...

I already had the pleasure of giving one of these cards to a friend for her 25th birthday this weekend.

So, let's hear it... Have you used your scratch paper or grid paper on your cards before? Looking forward to hearing back from you. If you've done something like this before please leave me a link in the comments below. I'd love to check out your work too!

Ok, Thanks for stopping by and if you have time tomorrow please come back as I've got something really exciting share. As always, if you have any questions please ask! Feel free to leave me a comment below or to email me directly at mariawillis@hotmail.com

Have an awesome day!
Maria.
