Crafty Friends: Ellen Hutson and a Discount!

Hey everybody! I hope your week is off to a great start! I am excited because we are getting kittens today... well, they were supposed to be kittens but they are twelve weeks old now so I'm hoping there's a little kitten left in them. Either way, we've been waiting for these kitties since May and we are so excited to finally get them.

I'm also excited because today is the 20th of the month and that means I'm getting together with my crafty friends for an awesome blog hop! If you haven't joined us for this hop before... we are a group of crafty friends who believe in crafting for fun. Every month we pick one company to focus on and we bring you tons of creative inspiration using products from that company. This month we are sharing our love for Ellen Hutson! Ellen is so generous and has offered an exclusive discount for our readers.

DISCOUNT: Click this link to Ellen Hutson and use the code: CRAFTYFRIENDS for 20% off an all Essentials by Ellen products from now through July 21st, 2020.

For this card I went for sort of a clean, mixed media look (is that a thing?). I love doing mixed media and haven't had much time for it lately so this card hit the spot for me in terms of getting colorful and grungy. I used the Dina Wakley Gloss Sprays on deli paper to create the background for my card. When it was dry I adhered it to a piece of white cardstock using gel medium.

Next, I added the sentiment, "Mondo Squishy Hugs," which I just love from the High Five stamp set from Ellen Hutson. I stamped it in black Hybrid ink and heat embossed it in clear embossing powder.

Then I used the Painted Stripes stamp set to add some decorative elements and texture to my card. These were all heat embossed either in gold, clear with a sprinkling of gold, or, black.

To finish my card off I added detail with black and white glaze gel pens just to add a little more texture.

Both of the stamp sets that I used today qualify for the awesome 20% discount to Ellen Hutson! There are a ton of products (that I didn't use today) that qualify as well. So, If you're inclined to do a little shopping remember to to use this link to Ellen Hutson and add the code CRAFTYFRIENDS when you check out. Here are the details...

That's it for me today you guys but my crafty friends have all dreamed up some amazing projects to share with you today as well. To continue hopping along with us please head on over to Becky's Blog. If you prefer to work off of a list-I've included a list of my Crafty Friends below. Ellen Hutson Release: Naked Ladies!

Hey everybody! I am so excited to have you stopping by today because for the first time I am joining the crew at Ellen Hutson for their new Essentials By Ellen Release! I paired a new sentiment set called, Tis the Season with the recently released Mondo Amaryllis for an out of the box Christmas card.

I grew up in the woods, in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by gorgeous redwood trees. Surprisingly, our driveway was lined with beautiful, pink Amaryllis... Of course, we didn't call them Amaryllis. We went with their street name: Naked Ladies. I grew up with Naked Ladies everywhere and not only were they gorgeous but they even smelled good too. I just learned that Naked Ladies come in a variety of different colors but since I've only ever seen pink ones, and they were a big part of my childhood, that's what color I decided to go with.

I started by heat embossing the flower in white onto Arches cold press water color paper. Then I used my Daniel Smith watercolors to paint it. I used only one color of pink paint for these (Opera Pink). To add a little depth and shadow to the two flowers in back I added a little bit of purple mixed with the pink paint.

I ink blended the background with Distress Oxides in Tumbled Glass, Broken China, and Peacock Feathers. I splattered the background with water and picked up the excess with a paper towel. If you look closely at the background you can actually see that my paper towel left behind a cool pattern in the ink. To finish the background off I splattered the whole thing with White Metallic Ink from Hero Arts. The whole background is shimmery!

After adhering the floral image to my card face I stamped the sentiment in black onto Hero Arts Mist cardstock. I used foam adhesive to pop it up over the bottom of the stem. Then I added some rhinestones and Nuvo Dream Drops for a little extra magic.

That's it for today you guys. Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll see you back here soon!

Have an awesome day!

Crafty Friends Blog Hop: Ellen Hutson and a Discount!

Hi Everybody! It's the 20th of the month and you know what that means right? Yep, blog hop with My Crafty friends and a 20% discount to today's star of the show: Ellen Hutson! I'll have details for the discount at the bottom of my post.

Also, a quick apology... I had intended to have a video to share with you how I watercolored this card. Unfortunately, things got a bit hectic around here (my son was in a car accident-he's ok, phew!) and I was not able to finish editing the video for today's hop. I do plan to get the video done within the week so if you're interested please keep an eye out for it on my YouTube channel (Click Here for my YT Channel).

Ok, let's get on to the card! Today I decided to use the gorgeous Mondo Wildflowers set. This set features a beautiful bouquet of flowers that I couldn't wait to watercolor!
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, maria willis, #ellenhutson, #mondowildflowers, #mondosakura, #cards, #cardmaking, #cardmaker, #stamps, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #handmade, #handmadecards, #watercolor, #danielsmithwatercolors, #discount, #art, #color, #copicmarkers, #copics,

I heat embossed the stamp multiple times in silver onto Arches cold press water color paper. This is my favorite watercolor paper. Using the right paper really does make a difference in how your watercolor turns out. I watercolored using my Daniel Smith watercolor paints. I don't use these paints enough and I really should pull them out more often.

I finished up my card by heat embossing the sentiment in black. Then I splattered the card with white acrylic paint and some black ink. Last, I added some fun embellishments in different colors.

In case you didn't know it, Ellen Hutson has a fantastic line of "Mondo" flowers. This Mondo Wildflower set is so beautiful but of course I have another favorite... the Mondo Sakura! I've used the Mondo Sakura set a couple of times before so I thought I'd share a quick look at two of those cards...

This card was also watercolored with Daniel Smith watercolors. If you'd like to see more details for this card please CLICK HERE.

This card was made with the Mondo Sakura set too but for this card I took a completely different take on it. The florals in this stamp set are so lovely that they can even be colored in gray scale and still pop off of the card. For this card I colored the flowers with my Copic Markers in cool grays. Then I ink blended the background and popped the flowers up on top. If you'd like to see more information about this card, please CLICK HERE.

I haven't mentioned it yet but all of these Mondo sets come with coordinating dies. I didn't need them on the first two cards that I've shared but I did use them on the last card.

Ok! Now that I've shared these cards with you, you might be wondering about the discount that Ellen Hutson was so generous to allow us Crafty Friends to offer to you. This 20% Discount is good on all Essentials by Ellen line products. There is such a wide variety of amazing stamps in the Essentials by Ellen line that there is really something for everybody.

To get your 20% discount just add the code CRAFTYFRIENDS20 to your cart at checkout. I hope this discount means you get to pick out something special for yourself or someone you want to send a crafty gift too.

That is it for today you all! Thanks for stopping by and you can keep hopping along with us by heading to my talented friend Becky's blog

Have an awesome day you all!

Copic Coloring in Gray Scale: Ellen Hutson Mondo Sakura

Hey folks! Happy Wednesday! I'm popping by really quickly to share this card that I made last week and didn't have time to post. I used the Mondo Sakura stamp set from Ellen Hutson. I just recently got this set but I've wanted it for so long.
#mariawillis, #cardbomb, #card, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #cardmaking, #handmade, #diy, #create, #color, #copics, #copicmarkers, #flower, #ellenhutson, #mondosakura,

These huge flowers are so fun to color. In my last blog post I watercolored them with bright colors so I thought I'd try something totally different and color them with Copic Markers in gray scale. If I remember correctly I used C0 to C7. I did not use every marker in that range but probably four or five of them. Then I used a black sharpie to add some scribbles and extra detail... and topped it off by adding some highlights with a white gel pen.
#mariawillis, #cardbomb, #card, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #cardmaking, #handmade, #diy, #create, #color, #copics, #copicmarkers, #flower, #ellenhutson, #mondosakura,

I wanted the background to bright and vibrant in contrast to the flowers so I blended Wilted Violet, Shaded Lilac and Spun Sugar Distress Oxide inks. They blend so smoothly (I used Strathmore watercolor paper) and are a dream to work with. I splashed some clean water onto the background to oxidize it and picked up the extra water with a paper towel.
#mariawillis, #cardbomb, #card, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #cardmaking, #handmade, #diy, #create, #color, #copics, #copicmarkers, #flower, #ellenhutson, #mondosakura,

I heat embossed the sentiment in silver, added some sequins and called it a day.

That's all for today but I know this post was brief, so, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask! You can leave me a comment below or shoot me an email at mariawillis@hotmail.com

Have an awesome day!

Mondo Sakura meets Day One of the Coloring Challenge!

Hey guys! Today is such an awesome day! Do you know why? Yup, it's Day One of the Daily Marker Thirty Day Coloring Challenge. It will actually only be 28 days this time but let's not fuss about details. If you are familiar with this challenge you are probably as excited as I am. If this is your first time hearing about it click HERE to head over to Kathy Racoosin's blog to learn more. Basically, the idea is to color a little bit every day for the whole month of February. You don't have to spend a lot of time coloring, even five minutes is great. Just try to get a little coloring in each day.

For day one I'm sharing a watercolored card I made with the gorgeous Mondo Sakura set from Ellen Hutson. I have been wanting this set forever (It's so popular that every time I've tried to buy it it's been sold out!) and finally have gotten my hands on it! I decided to bust out my Daniel Smith watercolors to have a little fun with it.

#mariawillis, #cardbomb, #card, #cards, #cardmaking, #thedailymarkerthirtyday, #handmadecards, #handmade, #watercolor, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #danielsmith, #danielsmithwatercolors, #flowers, #art, #color, #diy, #ellenhutson,

I used just two colors (a pink and a yellow) to mix different colors for the flowers on my palette. I used two different greens for the leaves and stems and just one rich blue for the background and splatters.
#mariawillis, #cardbomb, #card, #cards, #cardmaking, #thedailymarkerthirtyday, #handmadecards, #handmade, #watercolor, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #danielsmith, #danielsmithwatercolors, #flowers, #art, #color, #diy, #ellenhutson,

I stamped in Versafine Ink and I love how crisp and black this ink is. After watercoloring I decided to just leave it alone. I thought about adding sequins or drops to it but sometimes a simple, one layer card is all you need.
#mariawillis, #cardbomb, #card, #cards, #cardmaking, #thedailymarkerthirtyday, #handmadecards, #handmade, #watercolor, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #danielsmith, #danielsmithwatercolors, #flowers, #art, #color, #diy, #ellenhutson,

I hope you'll join in the fun and try coloring a little bit every day for the month of February. If you do decide to play along make sure to share your work on Kathy's website and on Instagram as well. Ok, folks, I'm outta here because it's dinner time and unfortunately I'm the cook so I'd better get to it!

Have an amazing day! Bye for now.

Most Adorable Snowman and Bunny!

Hey guys! I don't know what day it is where you live (because you might live on the opposite side of the world from me) but here in California, USA it is late Friday night, almost Saturday, and I am stoked for the weekend! I'll be hosting Christmas Eve and my house is a disaster, making my gifts and I haven't even started, need to mail some cards but have to make custom envelopes because I made weird size cards....you get the picture. I'm hoping to have at least a few major things done by the end of the weekend.

Well, before I hit the ground running on all of the things I've got to get done I thought I'd share a card I made this week. On my last post I shared a card using stamps designed by Stacey Yacula and I've got more where that came from today. I wanted to play along with this week's Freshly Made Sketches and this stamp seems like it was made for this sketch (check out sketch at the bottom of my post). This tall snowman is so sweet and his little bunny friend is absolutely adorable.

#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #cards, #craft, #create, #handmade, #cardmaking, #christmas, #penguin, #stamp, #copics, #copicmarkers, #art, #color, #ink, #paper, #simonsaysstamps, #ellenhutson, #purpleoniondesigns

I used my Copic Markers to color the snowman and bunny and then I fussy cut around the top of the image leaving the bottom wide. Then I used the Deckled Edge Dies from Honeybee Stamps to cut out both the background and the base of my image so that they would line up perfectly.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #cards, #craft, #create, #handmade, #cardmaking, #christmas, #penguin, #stamp, #copics, #copicmarkers, #art, #color, #ink, #paper, #simonsaysstamps, #ellenhutson, #purpleoniondesigns

I used Tonic Studios Nuvo Glimmer Paste and some washi tape to create a shimmery striped background. I also used a clear glossy pen to add some shine to the heart ornament in the snowman's hands (are they hands or twigs?). It's really hard to see it in these photos but I colored the snowman's buttons gold with a gel pen. If you're noticing a little bit of sparkle on this adorable duo it's because I did my coloring on shimmer paper.

That sentiment in the top left is from a Penny Black set called, Christmas Bunch. After adding some fun snowflakes to the background I used foam adhesive to pop up my characters as well as the whole background piece.

Here's that awesome sketch from Freshly Made Sketches challenge #366. Head over and check out all of the awesome projects created by the design team if you have a few extra minutes to be awed.

I'm also going to add this card to the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge this week because B is for Brrrr.... and these two are out in the cold! I'm glad they've got each other though because those hugs will help keep them toasty.

Ok, guys, I'd better go get some cleaning done before I go to bed. Before I go I'm going to add some links to the supplies I've used today. If you feel like doing a little shopping I'd love to have you use my links. When you do I make a small extra commission (at no extra cost to you) and it helps me keep my blog going.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
Have an amazing weekend and I'll see you back here soon!
