Copic Coloring with Waffle Flowers Gorgeous Magnolia

Hi everybody! I hope you had a great weekend filled with relaxation and crafty time. I spent most of my weekend sifting through our house and packing boxes as we are getting ready to move. Moving is a lot of work but it feels so good to purge and get rid of things that we don't need. That being said, I am looking forward to when I can spend my free time getting crafty again!

I bought this Magnolia stamp from Waffle Flower quite some time ago and hadn't had time to have fun with it. I finally busted it out along with my copics for some coloring.

First, I'm going to have to apologize because I can't tell you exactly which color markers I used for this. Since we are moving I am making a huge effort to keep organized and put things away. Unfortunately, I put the markers that I used away before I could make note of which ones they were. I can tell you that I used a mix of V's, B's, BG's, and R's for the flowers... I love mixing unexpected color combos to see if I can get them to blend well.

After coloring the flowers and leaves I used the coordinating dies to cut them out and adhere them to my card base which was blended with Distress Oxides. I popped some of them up on foam adhesive to give the card more dimension. I also popped the sentiment up on foam tape.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #waffleflowercrafts, #magnolia, #flowers, #card, #handmade, #handmadecards, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #color, #copics, #copicmarkers, #distressoxides, #timholtz, #tonicstudios, #simonsaysstamp,

To finish my card off and give it some sparkle I used my Glitter Gloss pen from Tonic Studios to color in the flower petals. You can just barely see the sparkle in the picture below but in real life the shimmer is fantastic. I also added some sequins from Simon Says Stamp (Moonshine) to give it a little bit more magic.

That's it for today you guys! It's late here in California and I've got to get to work in the morning so I'm off to bed now. I hope you all have a fantastic day and I'll be back here soon with another card. Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Goodbye Sweet Pup-You're My Lucky Star!

Hey Guys! I'm back today with something a little bit different from the Hero Arts My Monthly Hero December kit. This kit is full of magic with gorgeous fairies, an adorable mouse and tons of amazing add-ons. This card is made with one of the add-on sets called Lucky Star. When I saw this dog I immediately thought of some friends who recently lost their sweet dog. They are devastated and I wanted to send them a hug in the mail (in my world cards equal hugs).

I started by blending the background with Distress Oxide inks. Then I inked up another MMH kit add-on. It's called, Star Light Star Bright, and is a background stamp. It inks up the whole background so I used Versamark ink and then hit it with some clear embossing powder and some heat. This resulted in the whole heart being glossy except for the moon and stars. I used a yellow Distress Oxide ink to sponge in the moon and stars and then used a paper towel to wipe the excess ink from the embossed areas. I added some Clear Wink of Stella to make the cosmos glitter and then I cut the heart out using some dies and my Big Shot.
#mariawillis, #cardbomb, #card, #handmadecards, #heroarts, #dog, #stars, #copicmarkers, #copics, #timholtz, #distressoxideinks, #stamp, #heart, #condolencecard, #freshlymadesketches

I stamped this sweet, star gazing pup in Memento Ink and colored him in with my Copic Markers. There's a die set that matches this stamp set so cutting out the dog was easy.
#mariawillis, #cardbomb, #card, #handmadecards, #heroarts, #dog, #stars, #copicmarkers, #copics, #timholtz, #distressoxideinks, #stamp, #heart, #condolencecard, #freshlymadesketches

Next, I heat embossed the sentiment in white on black cardstock. I added the dog to the sentiment using foam adhesive and then the sentiment to the heart (again with the foam adhesive). I added a couple of star and clear dot embellishments to give my galaxy some dimensions. The background of the card is stamped with one of the smaller stamps (a trio of stars) from the same stamp set.
#mariawillis, #cardbomb, #card, #handmadecards, #heroarts, #dog, #stars, #copicmarkers, #copics, #timholtz, #distressoxideinks, #stamp, #heart, #condolencecard, #freshlymadesketches

That's it for today you all! Thanks for stopping by for a visit. I'm entering this card in the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge this week. Coloring with Copics and Tim Holtz Distress Crayons

Hi you guys! It's late on a Sunday evening here in California so I am going to be short and sweet with today's post. A while back I had a lot of fun making this card. I filmed my process but hadn't had time to finish the video editing until today... so, finally I get to share this with you. I used a Tim Holtz stamp set (see list below for info) and stamped it multiple times using masking fluid to cover the images that I wanted to keep in the front.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #timholtz, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #papercrafting, #copics, #copicmarkers, #distresscrayons, #cards, #art, #handmade, #cardmaking, #video, #videotutorial,

Then I used Copic Markers to color it. I was trying to work on using dark colors to add shadows and depth to my coloring.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #timholtz, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #papercrafting, #copics, #copicmarkers, #distresscrayons, #cards, #art, #handmade, #cardmaking, #video, #videotutorial,

I also added details with a fine tip sharpie and a white gel pen.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #timholtz, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #papercrafting, #copics, #copicmarkers, #distresscrayons, #cards, #art, #handmade, #cardmaking, #video, #videotutorial,

The real magic maker for this project was Tim Holtz Distress Crayons blended over the top of some of my Copic Coloring.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #timholtz, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #papercrafting, #copics, #copicmarkers, #distresscrayons, #cards, #art, #handmade, #cardmaking, #video, #videotutorial,

I could never explain exactly how I made this card so here's a video detailing my process from start to finish. I hope you like it!

Over at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge they've got an Anything Goes theme going on this week. That of course means that I'll be adding my card to their gallery. Check out their challenge by clicking HERE.

Watercolor fun and a Fancy Envelope!

Hi guys! Today I've got a fun watercolored card to share with you. It's a long overdue hug/thank you card for a kindness that somebody paid me a couple of months ago. I've been meaning to send this out forever and I figure it's better ridiculously late than never. I started off by heat embossing this gorgeous floral image from Concord & 9th (stamp set is called Hello Lovely) in black onto watercolor paper.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #card, #concord&9th, #flower, #watercolor, #distressinks, #distressoxides, #timholtz, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #papercrafting, #cardmaking, #handmade, #diy, #craft, #create, #art,

Then I used my Distress Inks (regular not Oxide) to watercolor the image. I love how vibrant these inks are even when you watercolor with them. Also, I don't know what you all think about blue leaves but I think they're pretty fun especially alongside the vibrant greens of the other foliage.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #card, #concord&9th, #flower, #watercolor, #distressinks, #distressoxides, #timholtz, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #papercrafting, #cardmaking, #handmade, #diy, #craft, #create, #art,

After watercoloring the main image I added some lighter watercoloring in blues and greens to the background. Then I splattered it with the same colors and added some sequins.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #card, #concord&9th, #flower, #watercolor, #distressinks, #distressoxides, #timholtz, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #papercrafting, #cardmaking, #handmade, #diy, #craft, #create, #art,

I decided to make a crazy, fun envelope to go with the card. I used my Distress Oxide inks to lay down some color on my craft mat. Then I spritzed it with shimmer spray and pressed my envelope into it repeatedly making sure the whole thing was covered with color.

That's all for today folks. Thanks so much for stopping by. Just in case you're interested in picking up either the original Distress Inks, or, the Distress Oxide Inks so that you can play around with them at home I am adding a link to Ranger Ink below. These inks are made by Ranger and I like purchasing directly from the source! Have fun!

Have an amazing day!

Let's Get Hopping Blog Hop: Not Your Standard Card

Hi Everybody! I'm so glad to have you here today because it's been forever since I've taken part in a blog hop and today I am hopping along with the crew from Let's Get Hopping. This month the theme is "Not Your Standard Card." Many card makers stick to making the standard A2 sized card (4.25" x 5.5") and don't deviate much from that size. This challenge is great because it forces us to think a little bit differently and I can't wait to see what sizes and shapes the rest of the crew has come up with.

I've really been looking forward to using this gorgeous stamp that I just got from Concord & 9th called Grateful for Everything. It is such a beautiful floral image and even though it's intended for the Fall season I just wasn't ready to take it that direction yet. It's perfect for this challenge because the image is large and won't fit on an A2 sized card. This gave me the chance to make a narrower, wider card and fill it with this beautiful image. I heat embossed it in White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder (PW118) from Hero Arts. This embossing powder is so pretty because it takes on a little bit of the color of cardstock that it is embossed on and is pearlescent (sentiment is also embossed in this same EP but looks different because it's on black cardstock).
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #heroarts, #concord&9th, #c&9, #altenew, #card, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #technique, #watercolor, #watercolorbleaching, #distressoxideinks, #distressoxides, #distressinks, #timholtz, #copics, #heatemboss, #copicmarkers,

After heat embossing the image I sponged it using my Distress Oxide Inks (colors listed at bottom of post). These inks are such a dream to blend! They look creamy, have a matte finish and even oxidize when you add water. After sponging I flicked some water droplets onto my card with a wet paintbrush. Then I used a paper towel to absorb the water which left behind some pretty, light colored splatter.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #heroarts, #concord&9th, #c&9, #altenew, #card, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #technique, #watercolor, #watercolorbleaching, #distressoxideinks, #distressoxides, #distressinks, #timholtz, #copics, #heatemboss, #copicmarkers,

Next, I used a technique that I learned from the talented Kelly Latevola. She calls it water color bleaching (I think I've called it ink lifting in the past) but then she takes it a step further and incorporates some copic coloring to make her images really pop off of the page. Here's a link to the video I watched where she demonstrates this technique: CLICK HERE. Anyhow, I used a wet paint brush to color over my image. As I wet the image I pressed a paper towel over it to remove some of the ink so that the image looked "bleached." This doesn't remove all of the color but it does leave it looking faded out. After that I went back to the image with my Copic Markers and added shading and drop shadows to give it more detail and add back in some more color where I wanted it.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #heroarts, #concord&9th, #c&9, #altenew, #card, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #technique, #watercolor, #watercolorbleaching, #distressoxideinks, #distressoxides, #distressinks, #timholtz, #copics, #heatemboss, #copicmarkers,

I heat embossed the sentiment from Altenew in the same Hero Arts embossing powder that I used on the floral image. It looks a bit darker and more silvery against the darker cardstock. I popped the image up on foam tape to give it a bit of dimension.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #heroarts, #concord&9th, #c&9, #altenew, #card, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #technique, #watercolor, #watercolorbleaching, #distressoxideinks, #distressoxides, #distressinks, #timholtz, #copics, #heatemboss, #copicmarkers,

To finish the card off I add a coat of Wink of Stella to my image. Then I added some clear sequins in a variety of sizes to give it a little more sparkle.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #heroarts, #concord&9th, #c&9, #altenew, #card, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #technique, #watercolor, #watercolorbleaching, #distressoxideinks, #distressoxides, #distressinks, #timholtz, #copics, #heatemboss, #copicmarkers,

Well, that is it for today folks. I hope you've enjoyed my project because I really enjoyed trying out a new (to me) technique. I've put a list of the products that I used and links to the shops where they can be purchased just in case you're interested in trying this technique out for yourself. I am also entering this card in the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge (Anything Goes)

I hope you'll keep on hopping along with us to check out what the rest of the crew has made for this hop. You can head on over to Jennifer Frost's blog by clicking the next button below.

Have an amazing day!

Honeybee Mermaid: Have a Fintastic Day!

Hey Everybody! I'm here today with a quick post. I finally had time to get back into my craft room last night (think VERY early this morning) and I had a little fun with this gorgeous mermaid from the Swimming By stamp set from Honeybee Stamps. I also used my new Arteza Real Brush Pens for the first time and I love them!
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #cards, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #honeybeestamps, #rangerink, #arteza, #artezarealbrushpens, #art, #watercolor, #mermaid, #mermaidsong, #swimmingby, #distressoxideinks,

I started out with the Mermaid's tail and used two green markers and a blue to get some fun shading. Then I moved on to her skin and shells. For most of the card I applied color directly to the watercolor paper with my Arteza Real Brush Pens and then I used a water brush (paint brush with a water-filled barrel) to blend the colors. I did her shells a little differently as the red color that I wanted to use was a bit bolder than I wanted it to be. I colored the red ink onto a piece of acrylic. Then I used my water brush to pick up the color and paint it onto her shells. It worked perfectly to dilute the color. I wanted a little extra shading on the sides of the shells so I went back in with my brush pen, added a little color directly to the edges and then blended it with my water brush. It worked the way it was hoping I would and I love how versatile these pens are.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #cards, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #honeybeestamps, #rangerink, #arteza, #artezarealbrushpens, #art, #watercolor, #mermaid, #mermaidsong, #swimmingby, #distressoxideinks,

My favorite part to color on this mermaid was her hair. I'm a little obsessed with mixing and blending odd colors right now and for her hair I picked two purples (light and dark) and a teal green color. They blended together to make some really fun shades of purples, blues and greens. I laid down the color first, then blended making sure to leave the highlighted areas with less pigment. After watercoloring I went back in and added more color where it was needed.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #cards, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #honeybeestamps, #rangerink, #arteza, #artezarealbrushpens, #art, #watercolor, #mermaid, #mermaidsong, #swimmingby, #distressoxideinks,

I painted my background using both my Arteza Real Brush Pens (two blues for the water) and Distress Oxide Ink in Frayed Burlap (sand). Then I heat embossed the sentiment in black (sentiment is from Mermaid Song by Honeybee Stamps). I finished off my card by using a white gel pen to add highlights and details to the mermaid and background and glueing on some sequins from Hero Arts.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #cards, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft, #honeybeestamps, #rangerink, #arteza, #artezarealbrushpens, #art, #watercolor, #mermaid, #mermaidsong, #swimmingby, #distressoxideinks,

That's it for today folks! Just in case you'd like to pick up a set of these amazing watercolor markers or one of the stamp sets I used for this card I will add some links for you below. If you have any questions please shoot me an email or leave me a comment below.

New Distress Oxides are Available Now!

Surprise, surprise!! Tim Holtz just released set number four of his amazing Distress Oxide inks! If you follow my blog at all you have definitely seen these in action but if you are new and haven't seen them before... They are truly amazing inks! They have the properties of both dye and pigment inks mixed into one ink. You can stamp or blend with them just as you would a normal ink but when you add water to these inks things start to get a little crazy (crazy amazing!). These inks oxidize when they are combined with water and you can get some really cool effects by doing this. You can also layer these inks because of their pigment ink qualities. This gives you opportunity to create in ways that you never could with regular dye inks. I'll share a couple of cards that I've made using Distress Oxide inks in the past but first let me share the link to the new set of inks as they are sure to sell out fast.

Ranger is offering a FREE Tim Holtz bag to carry your inks in as well as FREE SHIPPING so snatch up this deal on the double! I just ordered mine and the other thing I added to my order was the new Alcohol Lift Ink which I cannot wait to get my hands on!

#distressoxideinks, #timholtz, #newdistressoxides, #newrelease, #ink, #rangerink, #cardbomb, #alcolholliftink, #cards, #stamp, #paper, #papercraft, #technique,     #distressoxideinks, #timholtz, #newdistressoxides, #newrelease, #ink, #rangerink, #cardbomb, #alcolholliftink, #cards, #stamp, #paper, #papercraft, #technique,

Ok! Here are a few examples of cards that I've made using the Distress Oxide inks in previously released colors.

This background for this seal card was made by sponging, blending and watercoloring with Distress Oxides.

This bright background was created by blending the Distress Oxide inks and that spritzing with water to oxidize the ink.
#distressoxideinks, #timholtz, #heroarts, #newdistressoxides, #newrelease, #ink, #rangerink, #cardbomb, #alcolholliftink, #cards, #stamp, #paper, #papercraft, #technique, #heroarts

Both of these octopus cards were created by blending Distress Oxide Inks, spritzing with water, spritzing with Distress Spray and repeating the process multiple times. The effect is really cool in person as the background has texture from the Distress Spray. I wish you could touch it and feel for yourself!

This background was made by using the Ink Smooshing technique with Distress Oxides.
#distressoxideinks, #timholtz, #newdistressoxides, #newrelease, #ink, #rangerink, #cardbomb, #alcolholliftink, #cards, #stamp, #paper, #papercraft, #technique,

These two were ink blended and then both lightly misted and heavily splattered with water.

This last card was ink blended and then I flicked water onto the background at an angle to make the drops appear like falling rain. In this card you can really get an idea how these just blend like butter. They are so smooth and forgiving to work with and I love the chalky, matte finish they have (with no chalky residue!).

Hero Arts: June My Monthly Hero Kit & Add-ons

Hi guys! I hope you all are doing well and getting lots of crafting time in. I have been a wild woman this past week. My son got out of school and got his first job! We've been so busy with paperwork and meetings and shopping for his work uniforms (among other things) that I haven't had much time to craft or even to blog the things I made weeks ago. I do have some AWESOME  news though!

I started out the month playing along with Kathy Racoosin's 30 day coloring challenge (and fell off the bandwagon when life struck but that's ok!). A while back I realized that her Coloring Challenge Road Trip would be at Hero Arts which is only a couple of hours away from me! I was so excited at the possibility of attending and then so bummed when I realized that I was too late and the event was full. I decided to message Kathy to see if there was a waiting list. Today I heard back from Hero Arts and there is room for me to attend! That means that this coming Saturday I will be spending the day at Hero Arts with an amazing group of crafty people. We will just color all day long and apparently eat turkey sandwiches for lunch. Woohoo! So, this is the perfect chance for me to share some of the projects I've made recently using Hero Arts products.

This card features the June My Monthly Hero kit and one of the add-on sets called Seal of Approval. This card was custom ordered for a boy (Ethan) who was turning ten.
#cardbomb, #mariawillis, #heroarts, #mymonthyhero, #beach, #ocean, #sea, #seal, #timholtz, #distressinks, #distressoxideinks, #cards, #cardmaking, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #papercraft,

I sponged the sand and stamped the ocean with Distress Oxide inks. I wanted a softer look to the ocean so before stamping the second and darker layer of water, I spritzed the inked up stamp to oxidize the ink. I was happy with the way it blended into the larger body of water. Instead of stamping the third layer of water with the finest detail in ink... I decided to use my White Puff Embossing Powder from Wow Embossing to add some sea foam to the top of the water. I love how that embossing powder adds life and texture to the card. I watercolored the sky with Distress Oxides and stamped the clouds in white pigment ink. The clouds weren't bright enough for me so I used a white gel pen to outline the tops of them. Last, I stamped the birds in gray archival ink.

Now, since this card was for a ten year old I decided to make it interactive and I rigged a little mechanism on the side to make the ball bounce around a little. Here's what it looks like when it's in motion...

It's pretty basic but apparently Ethan loved it and that is all that matters. It was pretty simple to make but I wanted to share a picture of the guts of the card so that you could see what I did. After coloring the ball with Copic markers I used a hole punch to punch out a hole that was smaller than the ball. I wanted the ball to have room to move without the hole being visible from the front of the card. I put a small piece of foam adhesive on the back of the ball and fit the adhesive through the hole that I had punched. Then I used a 1/4" strip of cardstock to connect two circles that I had punched out with punches (but you could also dies or cut by hand). I attached the larger circle to the foam adhesive on the back of the ball and placed it so the smaller circle would stick out the side to move the ball around. Then I used foam adhesive to create a channel for the mechanism to sit inside, added adhesive to the rest of the card and attached it to my card base.

My seal was also colored with Copic Markers. Ethan's name was created by die cutting the letters out of paper that was sponged with color. I taped off the bottom half of the letters and used the Sand Embossing Powder that came in the kit to heat emboss the top of his name. You can't see it in the photo but the sand EP has quite a bit of copper in it and it gleams like Fool's Gold. It's a really cool product!

This set made it so easy to create a gorgeous beach scene that I am sure I'll be using it often in the future.

I'm going to enter this card into the A Blog Named Hero monthly challenge. The theme for this month is Summertime Fun and I think this card fits the theme.
