Hero Arts My Monthly Hero July 2022 Release: Blog Hop and Giveaway!

Hey everybody! The wait is over! It's time for the Hero Arts July 2022 My Monthly Hero release and this month's kit is a flamingo loving dream! It's got a gorgeous layering flamingo stamp set with clouds, water and grass. There are coordinating dies and five ink cubes! There are also self-adhesive pink and teals gems as well as teal pearls (affiliate links may be used at no extra cost to you)!

Before I get to my cards, if you aren't familiar with the My Monthly Hero kit, it's a kit that is released by Hero Arts on the first Monday of every month. It always has a fun, themed, collection of stamps, dies and other goodies. The cost is just $34.99/month and the value is always much greater! This month's kit is valued at $75!

You have the option to subscribe (subscribing now means your first kit will be the August release), or, to buy your favorite kits as one-off purchases. Be aware that once these kits sell out they are gone for good. If you see a kit you like make sure to snatch it up quickly! There are also a ton of amazing add-on products! You can buy the add-ons as a bundle at a discounted rate or just pick up your favorite products.

For my first project I decided to make a birdday shaker card (get it?). I started out by spraying a piece of white cardstock with my DIY liquid watercolor sprays in Pink and Indigo and se that off to the side to let it dry. Later, I came back and ink-blended around the edges with Blue Hawaii ink.

Cardbomb, Maria Willis,Hero Arts,My Monthly Hero July 2022,cards, cardmaking, stamps, stamping, art, color, diy, handmade, inkblending,#shaker card, flamingos, happy birthday

Next, I stamped my flamingos using the color-layering set from the kit. My bottom (solid) layer is Cotton Candy ink. My next layer (detailed layer) was stamped with Rose Quartz Pigment Ink and heat embossed in clear embossing powder. I love that the heat embossing gave a raised, shiny texture to the bird's feathers. Next, I stamped the legs and beaks in Onyx Pigment Ink and again, I heat embossed in clear. This caused some of the Onyx ink to melt into the Rose Quartz layer at the bottom of the birds which I think adds a fun, shadowed look to the feathers. I did lose a little detail on the beaks and I added that back in with a fine-tipped sharpie. After the flamingos were done I cut them out using the coordinating dies.

To create the shaker portion of my card I used a shaker pouch from Tonic Studios and added some glitter and sequins from my stash before sealing it up. I adhered the flamingos using foam tape and then followed it up by adding the sentiment stamped in black on Paradise cardstock.
Cardbomb, Maria Willis,Hero Arts,My Monthly Hero July 2022,cards, cardmaking, stamps, stamping, art, color, diy, handmade, inkblending,#shaker card, flamingos, happy birthday

For my next card I used the Large Toucan Bold Prints stamp and heat embossed it in gold onto watercolor cardstock.
Cardbomb, Maria Willis,Hero Arts,My Monthly Hero July 2022,cards, cardmaking, stamps, stamping, art, color, diy, handmade, inkblending,#shaker card, flamingos, happy birthday

I watercolored the image using Nuvo Shimmer Powders from Tonic Studios.

To finish the card off I added a sentiment from Zen Messages heat embossed in white on black cardstock. I matted the image piece on black cardstock and called it good!

VIDEO: Hero Arts My Monthly Hero Kit Release, Blog Hop and Giveaway!

Hi everybody and happy Hero Arts release day! The June My Monthly Hero Kit is here and it is the purrrfect set for birthdays... Ha! Sorry that was so cheesy but I couldn't help it.

If you aren't familiar with the My Monthly Hero kit, it's a kit that is released by Hero Arts on the first Monday of every month. It always has a fun, themed collection of stamps, dies and other goodies. The cost is just $34.99/month and the value is always much greater! This month's kit is valued at $72!

You have the option to subscribe (subscribing now means your first kit will be the July release), or, to buy your favorite kits as a one-off purchases. Be aware that once these kits sell out they are gone for good. If you see a kit you like make sure to snatch it up quickly! There are also always a ton of fantastic add-on products offered. You can choose to buy your favorites or buy them all at a discounted rate.

Ok now let's get on to my cards because I've got four cards and a VIDEO to share with you today and there's also a GIVEAWAY (details at bottom of post)! My first card is a shaker card and let me tell you that this is the easiest shaker card I've made in my life! You can watch me quickly put it together in the video but here's how I made it... I started out by stamping two adorable kitties and a cake from the kit in INTENSE-ified Black Ink. I colored my images with copic markers and then die cut them (the kit always comes with coordinating dies) and set them aside.
Cardbomb, Maria Willis Hero Arts, My Monthly Hero Kit June 2021, Video, video tutorial,#shaker card, cards, cardmaking, ink blending, paper craft, art, diy, handmade, copic coloring, birthday, die cutting,

If you'd prefer to watch me put this together in the video then here you go!

If you're having trouble viewing this video you can watch it HERE.

Next, I used the new Streamer Stencil to ink blend my background using Agean, Summer Sky and Orchid Bold Inks. These three colors blend beautifully together and you'll see this combo on three of my cards today. Ink blending was made totally easy bc I held the stencil down with my magnetic platform from Tonic Studios. After ink blending, I left the magnets in place to hold the stencil down and I used the White Iridescent Shimmer Spray to spritz on a coating of beautiful, transparent shimmer (which of course doesn't show up in the pics). I put this background face down on a Tonic Shaker Pocket and adhered three of the flaps to the back, leaving the top flap open. I poured in a bunch of shaker guts including confetti from the kit and some Icicle Sequins. When my shaker had enough shaker guts I sealed the top flap of the shaker pocket to seal my card front. I've made shaker cards like this before and have done it all from scratch. Having these precut acetate pieces with adhesive flaps is a total shaker card game changer!
Cardbomb, Maria Willis Hero Arts, My Monthly Hero Kit June 2021, Video, video tutorial,#shaker card, cards, cardmaking, ink blending, paper craft, art, diy, handmade, copic coloring, birthday, die cutting,

After sealing up my shaker card I used foam tape to add all of the adorable images from the kit that I had already colored. The sentiments that I used were from the new Party Animals set. If two kitties diving head first into a cake isn't wild then I don't know what is, lol!
Cardbomb, Maria Willis Hero Arts, My Monthly Hero Kit June 2021, Video, video tutorial,#shaker card, cards, cardmaking, ink blending, paper craft, art, diy, handmade, copic coloring, birthday, die cutting,

For my next card I ink blended the same trio of inks as on my last card. Then, I used Morning Fog Sparkle Spray and the Streamer Stencil to create a bold and sparkly background.
Cardbomb, Maria Willis Hero Arts, My Monthly Hero Kit June 2021, Video, video tutorial,#shaker card, cards, cardmaking, ink blending, paper craft, art, diy, handmade, copic coloring, birthday, die cutting,

Next, I used the Color Layering Cupcake to create a focal point for my card. Now, I am the worst at color layering stamps and I hardly ever use them but, I'd like to get better at them so I decided to go for it because this cupcake is awesome! I made a few blunders along the way but nothing that couldn't be fixed with a copic marker (I didn't line the cake up properly with the liner and had a gap but a marker quickly fixed that). I die cut the cupcake with the coordinating dies and added some sparkle laquer and confetti bits from the main kit.
Cardbomb, Maria Willis Hero Arts, My Monthly Hero Kit June 2021, Video, video tutorial,#shaker card, cards, cardmaking, ink blending, paper craft, art, diy, handmade, copic coloring, birthday, die cutting,

I wanted to add a candle to my cupcake so I stamped the Candles Bold Prints stamp in black ink. I selected the candle with the stars and cut it out with my scissors after coloring it with copic markers. I cut the bottom of the candle off in a curve so that it would look like it was stuck in the frosting. I added the cupcake and candle to my card and finished it off with a sentiment from the Color Layering Cupcake set.
Cardbomb, Maria Willis Hero Arts, My Monthly Hero Kit June 2021, Video, video tutorial,#shaker card, cards, cardmaking, ink blending, paper craft, art, diy, handmade, copic coloring, birthday, die cutting,

For my next card I again used the Streamer Stencil and Hero Arts Bold Inks to ink blend my background.

Cardbomb, Maria Willis Hero Arts, My Monthly Hero Kit June 2021, Video, video tutorial,#shaker card, cards, cardmaking, ink blending, paper craft, art, diy, handmade, copic coloring, birthday, die cutting,

Then, I added my sentiment from the Birthday Stamp & Cut XL. I die cut the sentiment three times (Amethyst, Pitch Black and Silver Glitter) and layered them together using liquid adhesive. I heat embossed the sentiment in white on black and cut it out with my paper trimmer.
Cardbomb, Maria Willis Hero Arts, My Monthly Hero Kit June 2021, Video, video tutorial,#shaker card, cards, cardmaking, ink blending, paper craft, art, diy, handmade, copic coloring, birthday, die cutting,

After adhering my card face to a black cardbase I added the sentiment pieces with foam tape. The final touch was to add some confetti bits for a little bit of texture.

There are a limited number of sets so if you want one please make sure to grab yours before they sell out. #tonicstudios,#tonicstudiosusa,#tonicstudiosstampclub,#cards,#cardmaking,#stamps,#stamping, ink, paper,#art,#diy,#handmade,#handmadecards,#video,#videotutorial, tutorial,#shaker card,

In addition to the Party Animal Bundle there is also a new die set called Banners and Strips (UK) that goes for $14.99. Check out this video I made sharing all of the products included in this launch...

If you're having trouble watching this video you can view it HERE

Now I want to share a couple of really fun shaker cards that I made with you. These are frameless shaker cards and are really easy to make. I got the idea from my friend Ilda Dias and had to try it for myself. I was thrilled at how easy it was to do so I made you a video for this too.

If you're having trouble watching this video you can view it HERE.

I started out by stamping and coloring a bunch of the images from the Party Animals set. I used my copic markers to color them.
#tonicstudios,#tonicstudiosusa,#tonicstudiosstampclub,#cards,#cardmaking,#stamps,#stamping,ink,paper,#art,#diy,#handmade,#handmadecards,#video,#videotutorial,tutorial,#shaker card,

After I was done coloring the images I used the coordinating dies to cut them out. This made the process so easy and gave me perfectly cut images without the effort of having to hand cut them all.
#tonicstudios,#tonicstudiosusa,#tonicstudiosstampclub,#cards,#cardmaking,#stamps,#stamping,ink,paper,#art,#diy,#handmade,#handmadecards,#video,#videotutorial,tutorial,#shaker card,

I ink blended some blue onto a piece of cardstock cut at 4.25" x 5.25" so that there would be some color in the background. I used the large round blending brushes which work like such a dream for super smooth blending.
#tonicstudios,#tonicstudiosusa,#tonicstudiosstampclub,#cards,#cardmaking,#stamps,#stamping,ink,paper,#art,#diy,#handmade,#handmadecards,#video,#videotutorial,tutorial,#shaker card,

Next, I cut down a clear, plastic envelope so that it was one quarter inch larger on every side than my card face. I also put adhesive strips on the back of my card face.
#tonicstudios,#tonicstudiosusa,#tonicstudiosstampclub,#cards,#cardmaking,#stamps,#stamping,ink,paper,#art,#diy,#handmade,#handmadecards,#video,#videotutorial,tutorial,#shaker card,

I put the plastic sheet face down on my table and scooped shaker guts out on top of it. When I had enough shaker guts I put my card face (ink blended side down) on top of the guts. Then, I peeled off the release paper and folded the edges of the plastic sheet onto the back of my card. This trapped all of the shaker guts inside the card and allowed them to move freely.
#tonicstudios,#tonicstudiosusa,#tonicstudiosstampclub,#cards,#cardmaking,#stamps,#stamping,ink,paper,#art,#diy,#handmade,#handmadecards,#video,#videotutorial,tutorial,#shaker card,

Once the shaker portion of my card was put together I adhered my party animals and sentiment to the front of the card using foam adhesive. After that I added a few sequins to the front and glued the whole thing to a card base. These are seriously the easiest shaker cards I have ever made!
#tonicstudios,#tonicstudiosusa,#tonicstudiosstampclub,#cards,#cardmaking,#stamps,#stamping,ink,paper,#art,#diy,#handmade,#handmadecards,#video,#videotutorial,tutorial,#shaker card,

One of the things that I really love about this new Party Animals release is how versatile it is. It's easy to make simple but fun cards. It's also perfect for building scenes and making really detailed cards. Here is a video I made to show you just how easy it is to make a wide variety of styles of cards with this set.

If you are having trouble watching this video you can view it HERE.

Now that you've watched the video here are some close up pictures of the cards I made...
#tonicstudios,#tonicstudiosusa,#tonicstudiosstampclub,#cards,#cardmaking,#stamps,#stamping,ink,paper,#art,#diy,#handmade,#handmadecards,#video,#videotutorial,tutorial,#shaker card,

This little turtle is so fun and I love the punny sentiments that go along with him.
#tonicstudios,#tonicstudiosusa,#tonicstudiosstampclub,#cards,#cardmaking,#stamps,#stamping,ink,paper,#art,#diy,#handmade,#handmadecards,#video,#videotutorial,tutorial,#shaker card,

I used my Nuvo alcohol markers and watercolor pencils to color in the turtle and sweet little heart.
#tonicstudios,#tonicstudiosusa,#tonicstudiosstampclub,#cards,#cardmaking,#stamps,#stamping,ink,paper,#art,#diy,#handmade,#handmadecards,#video,#videotutorial,tutorial,#shaker card,

My next card uses the same layout as my first card does. I stepped it up by adding stenciling to the background (the stencils were made with dies from the set). I also added dimension by die cutting the hippo and bouquet and popping them up with foam adhesive.
#tonicstudios,#tonicstudiosusa,#tonicstudiosstampclub,#cards,#cardmaking,#stamps,#stamping,ink,paper,#art,#diy,#handmade,#handmadecards,#video,#videotutorial,tutorial,#shaker card,

Did you notice the cute little flagged ends on my sentiment? I cut that out with one of the dies from the Banners and Strips die set and it was perfect!
#tonicstudios,#tonicstudiosusa,#tonicstudiosstampclub,#cards,#cardmaking,#stamps,#stamping,ink,paper,#art,#diy,#handmade,#handmadecards,#video,#videotutorial,tutorial,#shaker card,

The ink blending in the background was done with two different kinds of blending brushes. The dreamy looking sky was done using the new large blending brushes (on sale this weekend!). The grass needed a heavier application of ink so I used the blending brushes with handles for that.
#tonicstudios,#tonicstudiosusa,#tonicstudiosstampclub,#cards,#cardmaking,#stamps,#stamping,ink,paper,#art,#diy,#handmade,#handmadecards,#video,#videotutorial,tutorial,#shaker card,

My last card is quite a bit more intricate than the last two. This card incorporates everything from the last two cards (coloring, stenciling, dimension and scene building) to make a card that tells more of a story (party time!).
#tonicstudios,#tonicstudiosusa,#tonicstudiosstampclub,#cards,#cardmaking,#stamps,#stamping,ink,paper,#art,#diy,#handmade,#handmadecards,#video,#videotutorial,tutorial,#shaker card,

This card has layers of stenciled clouds and grass which gives it lots of depth. I've also tucked the large elephant behind a layer of grass to make it look like he's set further back in the scene.
#tonicstudios,#tonicstudiosusa,#tonicstudiosstampclub,#cards,#cardmaking,#stamps,#stamping,ink,paper,#art,#diy,#handmade,#handmadecards,#video,#videotutorial,tutorial,#shaker card,
Adding balloons, a bird, gifts and cake plus the little elephant in the front creates a fun party scene.

If you're in the UK Click Here, and if you're in the USA Click Here. In case you've noticed that my face and name are on the banner below... Yup, that's me. I've made a little video to walk you through the products that are available in this release so here's that video to start you off. Heads up that I've actually got three videos for you today so make sure to keep reading until the end.

Now that you've had a good look at the Heartfelt Corsage stamps and dies we can get into my first cards. I've used one of the main floral stamps to create some popped up shaker cards. This stamp is perfectly sized to be the focal point of your card and it also works to decorate your envelopes with.

Here's a video sharing how I made these shaker cards...

To make these cards I started by ink blending the background with a stencil. Then, I cut multiple die cuts out of cardstock and an acrylic sheet.
Cardbomb, Tonic Studios, Tonic Studios USA, Tonic Studios Stamp Club, #tonicstudiosstampclub, stamps, stamping, cards, card making, ink, paper, paper craft, watercolor, video tutorial, shaker cards, envelope art

I layered the die cuts on top of each other and adhered them to create a focal point with a hollow center.
Cardbomb, Tonic Studios, Tonic Studios USA, Tonic Studios Stamp Club, #tonicstudiosstampclub, stamps, stamping, cards, card making, ink, paper, paper craft, watercolor, video tutorial, shaker cards, envelope art

I filled the center with shaker guts (glitter and sequins) and sealed it up with an acrylic window.
Cardbomb, Tonic Studios, Tonic Studios USA, Tonic Studios Stamp Club, #tonicstudiosstampclub, stamps, stamping, cards, card making, ink, paper, paper craft, watercolor, video tutorial, shaker cards, envelope art

The floral piece in the front was watercolored before I glued it on to the front of the shaker.
Cardbomb, Tonic Studios, Tonic Studios USA, Tonic Studios Stamp Club, #tonicstudiosstampclub, stamps, stamping, cards, card making, ink, paper, paper craft, watercolor, video tutorial, shaker cards, envelope art

Next I added a sentiment and finished the cards off with some dream drops.
Cardbomb, Tonic Studios, Tonic Studios USA, Tonic Studios Stamp Club, #tonicstudiosstampclub, stamps, stamping, cards, card making, ink, paper, paper craft, watercolor, video tutorial, shaker cards, envelope art

My next card and envelope set started out with some fun inkblending. I used pink, orange and yellow to create these vibrant card backgrounds. On these projects I used the largest floral image from the Heartfelt Corsage bundle.

Cardbomb, Tonic Studios, Tonic Studios USA, Tonic Studios Stamp Club, #tonicstudiosstampclub, stamps, stamping, cards, card making, ink, paper, paper craft, watercolor, video tutorial, shaker cards, envelope art

To see exactly how I did all of the stamping on this card and envelope set check out this video...

This card was heat embossed with white embossing powder. Then I added a sentiment in black.

Cardbomb, Tonic Studios, Tonic Studios USA, Tonic Studios Stamp Club, #tonicstudiosstampclub, stamps, stamping, cards, card making, ink, paper, paper craft, watercolor, video tutorial, shaker cards, envelope art

The stamping on the envelope was done in black...
Cardbomb, Tonic Studios, Tonic Studios USA, Tonic Studios Stamp Club, #tonicstudiosstampclub, stamps, stamping, cards, card making, ink, paper, paper craft, watercolor, video tutorial, shaker cards, envelope art

Did you notice that fun little sentiment on the flap of the envelope? That's from the Happy Mail Envelope stamp set and I love it. There's another stamp that says, "Licked. With my spit." If I'm being honest that second sentiment is more my style.
Cardbomb, Tonic Studios, Tonic Studios USA, Tonic Studios Stamp Club, #tonicstudiosstampclub, stamps, stamping, cards, card making, ink, paper, paper craft, watercolor, video tutorial, shaker cards, envelope art

Now, if you watched the last video you know that there is another card in that video. Let's take a look at that one...

Cardbomb, Tonic Studios, Tonic Studios USA, Tonic Studios Stamp Club, #tonicstudiosstampclub, stamps, stamping, cards, card making, ink, paper, paper craft, watercolor, video tutorial, shaker cards, envelope art

This card was very easy to make and it still manages to be very soft and beautiful. I stamped the large floral image from the Heartfelt Corsage stamp set in Clear Mark ink on light blue cardstock. This gave a tone-on-tone stamped look. I die cut the image out and adhered it to a background that was lightly ink blended with purple ink.
Cardbomb, Tonic Studios, Tonic Studios USA, Tonic Studios Stamp Club, #tonicstudiosstampclub, stamps, stamping, cards, card making, ink, paper, paper craft, watercolor, video tutorial, shaker cards, envelope art

The sentiment is a custom sentiment that I put together using stamps from the Happy Mail Envelope set. That stamp set is great for decorating your envelopes in a variety of ways. It's also great for the backs of your cards and creating custom sentiments. I finished the card off by adding dream drops.
Cardbomb, Tonic Studios, Tonic Studios USA, Tonic Studios Stamp Club, #tonicstudiosstampclub, stamps, stamping, cards, card making, ink, paper, paper craft, watercolor, video tutorial, shaker cards, envelope art

So far you've seen the Happy Mail Envelope set used as something of a sidekick to the Heartfelt Corsage set... but guess what?! The Happy Mail set can hold it's own! It's a great sidekick stamp of course but check out how amazing the set is for decorating your envelopes! I stamped the wooden sign in brown ink, masked it off and ink blended it. Then I took a colored pencil and dragged those detail lines towards the center a little bit. I added silver gel pen to the nails.
Cardbomb, Tonic Studios, Tonic Studios USA, Tonic Studios Stamp Club, #tonicstudiosstampclub, stamps, stamping, cards, card making, ink, paper, paper craft, watercolor, video tutorial, shaker cards, envelope art

The sentiment was custom built from the set. To finish the envelope off I added a tiny "to," and, "from" to the card before ink blending and splattering with Glitter Gloss.
Cardbomb, Tonic Studios, Tonic Studios USA, Tonic Studios Stamp Club, #tonicstudiosstampclub, stamps, stamping, cards, card making, ink, paper, paper craft, watercolor, video tutorial, shaker cards, envelope art

Now I just have to decide who to address it to and send it off with something fun inside. Honestly though, even if I got a bill in this I would still be so happy to find this in my mail box.

Ok, you all, that's it for me today. I really hope you've enjoyed the release and hope you'll continue on with our blog hop. Next up on the hop is the amazing Michelle Short! Head over to her blog and see what beauties she's made for you to feast your eyes upon!
