Altenew Watercolor Brush Markers Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello, and welcome to Altenew's March 2019 Tropical Fiesta Watercolor Brush Markers Release Blog Hop! You may be starting the hop here with me or you may have come from the super talented Nicole Picadura. Either way, I'm so glad you're joining us!  Today Altenew is launching a new set of Watercolor Brush Markers called Tropical Fiesta and they are amazing (check them out HERE)! The colors in this set are so vibrant and alive that once I picked them up and started playing I just could not put them down. That means that today I've got three cards and video tutorial for you.

For my first card I used the watercolor markers and a sheet of acetate to lay down color in a stamped image. I figured out a way to do this that enabled me to apply the color to the image exactly where I wanted it and still get a loose water color look (video tutorial below). The gorgeous floral image is from a set called Forever and Always.

After putting down my first layer of color with acetate I added more layers of color using the Altenew brush pens and a paint brush.

After I was done painting I used a fine tipped sharpie and a white gel pen to add in some extra details. I love doing this to add some extra depth and highlights to my work.

I cut the watercolored image out with a deckled edge die and popped it up on my card base with foam tape. Then I added sequins and a heat embossed sentiment from the Wonderland stamp set.

These new Altenew watercolor brush pens are so much fun to work with. Not only are the colors striking and gorgeous but they blend together like a dream.
#mariawillis, #cardbomb, #altenew, #watercolorbrushmarkers, #watercolor, #flowers, #cards, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #art, #papercraft, #cardmaker, #color, #video, #videotutorial,

Heres that video video tutorial I promised you. Enjoy!

For my second card I used the same acetate technique as I did on the first card. I wanted you to see that the acetate technique can stand alone and make a very striking card. Again, I used acetate to apply the watercolor to the stamped image for a loose watercolor affect. On the first card I made I went back in and added a ton of extra detail and painting. On this card I added a just a little bit of extra color and then left it alone.

After the watercolor was dry I added a sentiment, black splatters and some black rhinestones. This card came together quickly and easily and I will definitely be using this technique again.

My third card is very different from my first two. Both the floral image and sentiment are from the Beautiful Blossoms stamp set and are heat embossed in silver.  On this card I watercolored straight onto the card using both a wet paintbrush and the watercolor markers.
#mariawillis, #cardbomb, #altenew, #watercolorbrushmarkers, #watercolor, #flowers, #cards, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #art, #papercraft, #cardmaker, #color,

This paper is different from the watercolor paper I used on my first two cards. I used Arches cold pressed on the previous cards and as this image was given to me at Creativation I'm not certain what brand the paper is. I did notice that the ink handled differently on this paper. Whatever paper you are using in your craft room it's a good idea to take your new watercolor brush pens for a test drive on a scrap of paper so that you know how they will perform on that paper. The markers worked really well on this paper too. I did notice that I had to work a little more quickly to get a smooth blend with this paper (this is not a problem you just have to know your paper).
#mariawillis, #cardbomb, #altenew, #watercolorbrushmarkers, #watercolor, #flowers, #cards, #stamp, #ink, #paper, #art, #papercraft, #cardmaker, #color,

On this card the embossing helped to keep my colors in place because the image was slightly raised. This can be helpful when you are adding shading to each petal and you are too impatient to wait for each petal to dry before moving onto the next one. Once again I have to say how well these colors work together and blend to make new, gorgeous colors.
