#TGIFC153 - March Madness - Anything Goes!

Hey! It's Thursday night/Friday morning at midnight and that means we've got another amazing challenge for you over at TGIF Challenges! This is a really good one too so you might want to play along with us. The theme is March Madness and anything goes this week (yes, that's right, make anything you want to)! I took this opportunity to mix and match some of the random things I had sitting on my desk to make a card. I watercolored this unicorn months ago and smooched that background weeks ago. Unfortunately, this is the nature of my desk... I have half-finished crafty things all over the place and I've been thinking lately that I should really make an effort to get all these fun pieces onto cards.
Card bomb, Maria Willis, Stampin' Up!, Unicorn, Magical Day, SAB, Occasions 2018, watercolor, technique, stamping, stamp, ink, Paper, paper craft, diy, handmade, creative, crafty, ink smooshing, color, magic, birthday

The unicorn was watercolored with Pacific Point and Melon Mambo inks with Daffodil Delight for the horn. I cannot remember what colors I used on the background although it appears to be Melon Mambo, Pacific Point... and maybe something else thrown int there. I'm sorry that I can't remember exactly what I did but on that day I went on a background making rampage and ended up with a bunch of different backgrounds of unknown color combos. The sentiment is from Fairy Celebrations and is just perfect with this unicorn.

That's all I've got for today folks but if you've got a second then head on over to the TGIF Challenge Blog to see what the rest of the design team has made to share with you today. With an anything goes theme the projects are sure to be amazing! Another cool thing for this week is that if you decide to play along you can case any design team member that you want! Have fun!

Have an amazing day you all! See you back here soon!

A Paper Pumpkin Thing: March 2018 Kit

Hey, hey! It's the last Thursday of the month in my neck of the woods and you know what that means, right? It means it's time to pull out your March 2018 Paper Pumpkin and have some fun creating alternate projects with this kit!

March 2018 Paper Pumpkin Kit, May Good Things Grow, Cardbomb, Maria Willis, Stampin' Up!, stamping, cards, ink, paper, handmade, create, craft, vintage, flowers, paper craft, roses, Paper Pumpkin alternate,

Today I am hopping with the A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop crew and I cannot wait to see what fun and creative projects the team will have to share with us.

This month's kit is a special one because this kit marks Paper Pumpkin's Fifth Anniversary!  This month the kit is vintage themed with lots of roses and a free gift of wooden embellishments. I decided to make a gift card set with my kit. I made the "box" out of Very Vanilla Thick cardstock that I splattered with Fresh Fig ink. Then I cut one of the envelopes apart and lined the left side with Gold Foil. I used the Fresh Fig ribbon from the kit as a closure for the box.
March 2018 Paper Pumpkin Kit, May Good Things Grow, Cardbomb, Maria Willis, Stampin' Up!, stamping, cards, ink, paper, handmade, create, craft, vintage, flowers, paper craft, roses, Paper Pumpkin alternate,

Inside of the set I've include some notecard sized envelopes on the left. On the right is a set of four cards that I put together using the supplies from the Paper Pumpkin kit. I could've decorated the inside of this set a bit more but decided to keep it simple this time.

Here's a peek at the cards I made for this set. There are two each of two designs for a total of four cards.

This card is my favorite. The rose background adds so much detail but still allows the gold glimmer paper, sentiment piece and gorgeous pearls to really stand out.

With supplies that were left in the kit I created this simple card to finish off my set.

The only thing that I added to it (not included in the PP kit) was the stitched circle in crumb cake cardstock. The "Thank You" sentiment comes from the All Things Thanks stamp set.

Here's a last look at the final product. I plan on giving it to my Mother-in-Law for Easter and I really hope she will like it.

March 2018 Paper Pumpkin Kit: May Good Things Grow

Hi Everybody! Thanks for stopping by for a visit. Today I've got a card that I've made as an alternate to the March 2018 Paper Pumpkin Kit called "May Good Things Grow." I've been having fun making alternate projects with kit and you'll see more of what I made over the next week.
March 2018 Paper Pumpkin Kit: May Good Things Grow, Maria Willis, Cardbomb, Stampin' Up!, cards, stamping, ink, paper, paper craft, creative, craft, heat emboss, #vintage, gold, paper pumpkin alternate, watercolor, technique, roses,

I used a Very Vanilla card base with a mat that I embossed with the Garden Trellis Embossing Folder.  I used the gorgeous wood embellishments that came as a free gift in the Paper Pumpkin kit this month embellish my card. These wooden embellishments have a beautiful, natural wood finish but I glammed them up a bit by heat embossing them in gold. To do this I pressed the wooden embellishments into my Versamark ink pad. Then I poured gold embossing powder over them. I used tweezers to hang on to them when I used my heat tool so that I wouldn't burn my fingers. Both the flowers and golden leaves hanging out in the background were from the free gift pack. I used a stamp from the kit, a fun die cut from the kit (I sponged the die cut), the twine and gorgeous pearl embellishments from the kit to make the centerpiece for this card.

The vintage rose background paper, Fresh Fig ribbon and cool, brass brad are also from the Paper Pumpkin kit! I added a circle of watercolor paper that I cut out with my stitched circle framelits and added some color to it with Fresh Fig ink and my aqua painter. I also splattered some ink onto the Very Vanilla background so that it wasn't quite so vanilla.
March 2018 Paper Pumpkin Kit: May Good Things Grow, Maria Willis, Cardbomb, Stampin' Up!, cards, stamping, ink, paper, paper craft, creative, craft, heat emboss, #vintage, gold, paper pumpkin alternate, watercolor, technique, roses,

Have you tried embossing wood embellishments before? Have you tried any other interesting techniques with them? If so, I'd love to hear about it! Let me know what you've tried in the comments below.

If you have any question about this card, or, you would like help purchasing products to make your own cards please let me know. Remember that Sale-a-Bration is almost over. You've got until March 31st to take advantage of getting a free gift for every $50 USD (before tax and shipping) that you spend in my store. It's also a great time to join my team as there are some pretty amazing perks for signing up right now. Let me know if you've got questions!

Ok, I'm outta here but I will be back tomorrow with more Paper Pumpkin alternatives. I'm excited about what I've got to share tomorrow so I really hope you'll come back to check it out.

Have an amazing day!

#TGIFC151 - Inspiration Challenge

Hello, hello! I hope you're having a terrific day today! I'm glad to have you join me today as TGIF Challenges has a really fun theme this week. It's Inspiration week over at the challenge blog and TGIFC has shared a gorgeous picture to get everyone inspired to create along with them. Here's what I've created for the challenge (scroll down to see the inspiration picture).
Card bomb, Maria Willis, Stampin' Up!, Petal Palette, stamp, stamping, ink, paper, watercolor, technique, paper craft, crafty, creative, handmade, diy, cards, heat emboss, flowers, SAB, Occasions, Sale-a-Bration

I heat embossed the roses from the Petal Palette stamp set multiple times on a piece of watercolor paper. Then I used just five colors to watercolor the whole thing: Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight, Lemon Lime Twist, Emerald Envy and Bermuda Bay. I love the way these colors blend to make such vibrant and gorgeous shades of the colors.

Card bomb, Maria Willis, Stampin' Up!, Petal Palette, stamp, stamping, ink, paper, watercolor, technique, paper craft, crafty, creative, handmade, diy, cards, heat emboss, flowers, SAB, Occasions, Sale-a-Bration

I heat embossed my sentiment on vellum and added some wooden embellishments to frame it out. I also added Gold Metallic Thread, Gold Ribbon and some Gold Enamel Embellishments. I offset the watercolored background on a base of Night of Navy cardstock and that was it for this card.

If you'd like to see some more amazing projects using this inspiration piece then head on over to the TGIF Challenge Blog and check out what the rest of the design team has made. If you've got a great idea of your own then we'd love to have you play along with us too!

#GDP129 Color Challenge

Hey Everybody! Thanks for joining me today. I'm pretty excited today because I finally had the time to play along with the Global Design Project Challenge Blog. This week they've got a color challenge that was a bit tough for me. The colors are Soft Suede, Pear Pizazz and Calypso Coral. When I saw the colors I realized that I haven't used any of the three in quite some time... so I guess it's about time, right? Here's what I came up with...
Card bomb, Maria Willis, Stampin' Up!, cards, card making, We Must Celebrate, watercolor, paper craft, stamp, ink, paper, handmade, diy, craft

I used the We Must Celebrate stamp set and masked off all of the critters except for this adorable bear. I stamped him in Archival Black ink along with the mushrooms and plants. I watercolored everything on this card and added some background splatters using my Stampin' Write markers.
Card bomb, Maria Willis, Stampin' Up!, cards, card making, We Must Celebrate, watercolor, paper craft, stamp, ink, paper, handmade, diy, craft

I used my Fine Tip Glue Pen to add some gloss to the mushrooms and then I added some Clear & Glitter Epoxy shapes to the background to add some subtle dimension.

That's all she wrote folks! I hope you've liked my card today. If you're interested in seeing more cards made with this color combo head on over to the Global Design Project Challenge Blog to see what their amazing design team has come up with this week!

Have an amazing week you guys and I'll see you back here soon!

OSAT Blog Hop: Happily Every After

Hey Every body! I'm so glad you could stop by today because it's the second Thursday of the month and you know what that means, right?!

It means it's time for the OSAT Blog Hop to go live and this month we've got 18 talented stampers from around the world sharing gorgeous cards and projects for you to "ooh," and, "ahh" over!

Our theme this month is Happily Ever After. Of course my mind went straight to "wedding" but I just didn't feel like making a wedding card. So, I started thinking about what "Happily Ever After" means to me... It means forever and ever I suppose which made me instantly think of my amazing parents. In April they will be celebrating 44 years of marriage! That is a really long time! Practically forever. I got a hold of my dad and asked him if I could make him an anniversary card to give to my mom. He loved the idea so here's what I made for him...

I used Pool Party cardstock for the base and mat and decorated the mat using a stencil and White Craft Ink. I wanted a subtle background so I was happy with how it came out. Then I embossed a piece of white cardstock and tore it to give it a rough edge. I used gorgeous vellum pieces from the Sweet Soiree Accessories Pack to decorate my card. I added color to them using my Blends alcohol markers. The numbers are from the same accessories pack. The sentiment is cut from a card from the Memories & More Petals Passion pack.

I added some enamel dots to finish my card off and was so thrilled at easily this card came together thanks to the card packs that I used.

For my project I decided to make a gift box. An anniversary sure seems like a great time to give someone a beautiful gift and beautiful packaging makes a gift even more exciting to receive. I used many of the same elements that I did on my card and kept the color schemes very similar so that both my card and box would coordinate.

I added some rhinestones to finish off this box and was again surprised at how easily it came together because of all of the gorgeous pieces from the accessory packs I used.

Well, that's all for me today folks! Thank you so much for stopping by. I hope you'll continue on this hop by clicking the Next button below and heading over to my lovely friend, Jenny Hall! You can also get to her blog by using the Blog Roll list below the Next button. I hope you have an amazing day and that you will enjoy the rest of the hop!

A Paper Pumpkin Thing: February 2018 Kit

Hey Everybody! I am back with my second blog hop of the day and this time around I am hopping with the A Paper Pumpkin Thing crew.

Card bomb, Maria Willis, Stampin' Up!, Paper Pumpkin, paper pumpkin alternative, tag, shabby chic, flowers, vintage, heat emboss, wildflower wishes, card, card making, handmade, stamping, stamp, ink, paper, watercolor, technique, paper craft, diy, crafty, creative

This is a huge hop full of fantastic artists and all of us are bringing you alternative Paper Pumpkin card and project ideas. This month's kit is called Wildflower Wishes and it is gorgeous!

For my card I decided to go for a grungy, shabby chic look. I embossed the sticker letters in Copper Embossing Powder and stuck them onto a piece of vellum. The background is watercolor paper stamped with Sahara Sand. I roughed up the edges of the watercolor paper with my finger nail and made sure there were a couple of tears in it. I also roughed up the edges of the DSP mat in the background.
Card bomb, Maria Willis, Stampin' Up!, Paper Pumpkin, paper pumpkin alternative, tag, shabby chic, flowers, vintage, heat emboss, wildflower wishes, card, card making, handmade, stamping, stamp, ink, paper, watercolor, technique, paper craft, diy, crafty, creative

It might be a little hard to see, but after distressing the edges of the cardstock, I used my aqua painter and some Melon Mambo ink to add a little color to the edges of the paper. I wanted to add a bit more color but I really wanted it to be muted. Something I did that you cannot see at all in the photos but does make a difference to the naked eye... I sponged white craft ink onto the edges of the DSP piece. It toned it down just a little and gave the card a softer look. The twine and the floral background piece both came in the kit as well. I colored in some small clear enamel dots with my Blends and added those for a bit more color.
Card bomb, Maria Willis, Stampin' Up!, Paper Pumpkin, paper pumpkin alternative, tag, shabby chic, flowers, vintage, heat emboss, wildflower wishes, card, card making, handmade, stamping, stamp, ink, paper, watercolor, technique, paper craft, diy, crafty, creative

For my project I decided to make a tag. I love all of these bright wildflower pieces that came in this kit and I wanted to pair one with a color that would make the flowers pop. I think Night of Navy does that nicely. The sentiment is stamped in Old Olive and the "so much" is stamped in Sahara Sand on watercolor paper and is watercolor washed with Daffodil Delight. I added Sparkle, bling and some twine to finish my tag off.
Card bomb, Maria Willis, Stampin' Up!, Paper Pumpkin, paper pumpkin alternative, tag, shabby chic, flowers, vintage, heat emboss, wildflower wishes, card, card making, handmade, stamping, stamp, ink, paper, watercolor, technique, paper craft, diy, crafty, creative

That's it for me today. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and I hope to find you back here soon!

Have an amazing day!
Maria Willis

Creating Kindness: Inspire

Hi Everybody! I'm so glad to be back on the blog today as I have just about turned into a raving lunatic from spending so much time crunching numbers (it's tax time here in the states). I'm especially excited to be here today as part of the Creating Kindess Design Team Blog & Video Hop.

Card bomb, Maria Willis, Stampin' Up!, card, video, video tutorial, card making, handmade, stamping, stamp, ink, paper, watercolor, technique, embossing paste, memories & more, petal passion, paper craft, diy, crafty, creative

This month our theme is "Inspire." It's such a great theme because it gives each of us the freedom to create based on anything that inspires us to be creative. I'm inspired by so many things in life from colors, to textures, to stamp sets and even by things like vintage china. Today's project is inspired by something totally different but I'll get to that in a second because I want to introduce today's guest designer...
INSPIRE

Bump, bum, bum, bah (trumpets)! Our guest designer this month is none other that the amazing Brian King! Brian's work is always stunning with clean lines and beautiful layouts. I can't wait to see what he has to share with us today. I met Brian last November at the OnStage event in Salt Lake City, Utah. Here's a picture of Carolynn Sander, Brian, and myself during a break.
Card bomb, Maria Willis, Stampin' Up!, video, video tutorial ,card, card making, handmade, stamping, stamp, ink, paper, watercolor, technique, embossing paste, memories & more, petal passion, paper craft, diy, crafty, creative

Ok! Back to my project now. I almost didn't participate in this blog hop because I was trying to be responsible and stay focused on my tax prep. I really needed a break though and decided that I could spare thirty minutes (only 30 minutes) and that if I could get my card AND VIDEO done in that amount of time then I would be able to participate in this hop. I really didn't have extra time to spare so this suddenly became a bit of a fun challenge for me. I sat down and without any planning I just started creating freely but with the focus of knowing I could not get sidetracked and that I had to finish this project no matter how it turned out. My project changed directions a few different times but when I flipped my video camera off and saw that the timer showed I had been working for 23 minutes I couldn't believe it! Here's what I came up with...

Card bomb, Maria Willis, Stampin' Up!, video, video tutorial ,card, card making, handmade, stamping, stamp, ink, paper, watercolor, technique, embossing paste, memories & more, petal passion, paper craft, diy, crafty, creative

I am a slow, laid back crafter most of the time so I'm pretty pleased with myself that I was able to knock out a card and video so quickly. I watercolored the background with Daffodil Delight and Melon Mambo, then added Shimmer Embossing Paste. I spattered some black ink on the background and added a sentiment. I even had a tricky way to add that bow to the Silver Glimmer Paper. Here's a quick video sharing my creative process. I will definitely be setting a timer for myself again in the future as it forced me to work in a different way than normal... Have you ever worked on a timer? Let me know how it went for you!

Remember that this video is part of the Creating Kindness Design Team Video Hop. That means that after watching my video, you can scroll to the description and click on the link to get to the next team member's video! I haven't yet seen what everyone else has to share but I'm so excited to see all of their beautiful projects and tutorials. Next up on this hop is my lovely friend Carolynn Sander of Carebear Stamps. She's my Canadian BFF and I'm sure she's got something stunning to share with us so let's click this next button and go visit her!  As for me, I'll say goodbye for now but I'll be back in just a couple of hours with another blog hop (Paper Pumpkin).

Thanks for stopping by my blog and I'll see you soon!
Have an amazing day!
Maria Willis
