Creating Kindness Blog Hop: New Catalog Favorites

Hello Everybody! Thanks for stopping by I am so glad that you are here! Today is a really exciting day. Today is the day the new Stampin' Up! Annual catalog launches... and today marks the debut of a very special new design team. I am thrilled to share that I am part of the Creating Kindness (around the world) international design team. This team has quickly become very special to me and we have some fun things to share with you today including both a blog hop featuring our favorite new catalog products, and, the first ever (to my knowledge) Stampin' Up! VIDEO HOP! I'd never heard of a video hop before but trust me-it's so cool-you don't even have to leave YouTube to view all of the videos!

First off, if you've never visited my blog before then, welcome! I'm so glad to have you here! My name is Maria Willis and I am a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator from a tiny mountain town called Boulder Creek in California, USA. I've been stamping for three years now and am really having the time of my life. If I had to describe my stamping style in one word... I think I would choose, "Techniques." I absolutely love to experiment with Stampin' Up! products and I love to try new techniques. When I find something cool or exciting I love to share it and that is what my blog post is all about today...

Not long ago I had the opportunity to be a display stamper at Stampin' Up's! On Stage event. This meant that I was lucky enough to get a box of unreleased products to play with. My favorite product from that box is the Glossy Paper which is available for purchase starting today. I absolutely love this paper because of all of the techniques that it lends itself to. The card and video that I have created to share today are featuring a Glossy Paper technique that I am calling: Alcohol Ink Blending. Have a look.

I had never used Glossy Paper before so when I pulled the sheets out of the box I had no idea what I was supposed to do with it. I went on a crazy search of Pinterest and YouTube to find some techniques to use. What I discovered was that the techniques that used water-based inks (Stampin' Up! inks are water-based) tended to yield more of a soft, pastel look when used with Glossy Cardstock. I found quite a few techniques using alcohol inks that yielded bright, vibrant colors. I wanted a way to get some bold, exciting colors using my Stampin' Up! inks so I started experimenting...

I found out that by mixing rubbing alcohol with my inks I could achieve not only bright and vibrant colors, but, some pretty beautiful color blending effects as well.

Here is another example of a background I made using this technique.

This example is one that I demonstrate in my video. I blended Lemon Lime Twist, Bermuda Bay, Emerald Envy and Dapper Denim. I love the way it came out!

I've got a how-to and color break downs for all three of these samples in my video.

Now onto our Video Hop! Have you ever heard of such a cool thing? Here's how it works. Go ahead and click on my video below to watch it. After you watch my video take a look at my video description. There is a link list to all of our Video Hop members in the description and all you have to do is click on the link after mine to view the next video. Each video has a link list in the description so keep on clicking the next link in the list and enjoy all of our videos without ever having to leave YouTube! What a neat idea (thanks Jenny Hall! You are a mastermind!)!

In this video there are two different ways to execute this Glossy Paper: Alcohol Ink Blending Technique so please make sure to watch until the end.

That's it for today folks! I hope you enjoyed what I had to share. Thank you so much for joining me today and I hope you will keep on hopping along to meet the rest of the team and to see which new catalog products they have selected to feature today! You can click the link below to head on over to my good friend in Canada who's always got something stunning to share... she's none other than the uber talented, Carolynn Sander!!
